                                 UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA
                 JEANNE HOFFMAN SMITH PROFESSORSHIP IN
                                   FILM AND VIDEO STUDIES
 
     The College of Arts and Sciences at the Univ. of Oklahoma,
Norman, invites applicants for the Jeanne Hoffman Smith Professorship
in Film and Video Studies. The university seeks applicants with an
outstanding record of achievement in the study of the moving image,
with particular emphasis in international film and/or video.
Candidates should have a Ph. D. and/or other exceptional
qualifications in the field. In addition, candidates must demonstrate
a strong record in research/creative activities and teaching in Film
and Video Studies. Candidates must qualify for tenure at the time of
appointment in one of the College of Arts and Sciences disciplines
associated with the University's Film and Video Studies Program, such
as Communication; English; Modern Languages, Literatures, and
Linguistics; and Journalism and Mass Communication. Applicants may

     The appointment will be at the associate/full professor level
with a competitive salary and benefit package. Applicants should
submit a full curriculum vitae and a letter of application outlining
qualifications for the position. In addition, three letters of
reference should be sent directly to the search committee. Review of
applications will begin on January 15, 1997, and will continue until
an appointment is made. Appointment commences August 16, 1997.
