Why not just digitally scan the nitrate materials and save digitally? Someone
should do a study of why it costs so much to "preserve" films these days. Could
"preservation" be paying for things other than the actual cost of running film
through a machine?
Like academic overhead, conferences, travel, meals, consulting fees, etc.
It would be interesting to see some cost comparisons and analyses for various
means of preserving film.
