BROOKLYN COLLEGE FILM DEPARTMENT FACULTY POSITION
Tenure-track position beginning September, 2004
Film Production, Screenwriting, and Editing

Rank and salary: Assistant Professor: $45,000-56,000

Film Production, Screenwriting, and Editing

Qualifications:

MFA; undergraduate teaching experience in screenwriting and film production; Professional credits in film production, screenwriting, and digital editing; Strong interpersonal skills; Commitment to undergraduate teaching; Computer skills in writing, production, and teaching; Professional use of Final Cut Pro, Avid, and Media 100 systems. (Sample syllabi, professional reel, screenplays, interview, and a demonstration class will be required of finalists.)

Duties and responsibilities:

Teach sections of Screenwriting I (introduction: the short script), Introduction to Film Production, and Computer-Controlled Non-Linear Editing. Committee work, administrative duties, student advisement, supervision of internships and independent study productions, curriculum development, continuing professional work in screenwriting and film production.

Since 1935 BROOKLYN COLLEGE has distinguished itself as one of the nation's leading public urban universities, receiving a four-star ranking in the 1998 Fiske Guide to Colleges. The Film Department of Brooklyn College is the only public undergraduate department of film production and film studies in New York City. There are over two hundred film majors from over fifty countries; fifteen hundred students take courses in the department each year. The department offers a B.A. with concentrations in film studies, film production, screenwriting, and film marketing, as well as a Certificate in Film with concentrations in film production and screenwriting. The Certificate program attracts advanced students with degrees from universities around the world. Graduate teaching is possible at CUNY's Graduate Center in midtown Manhattan. A prestigious group of Film Associates teach, advise students on career choices, and offer professional internships.
