This message is being cross-posted to several listservs and news groups.
Please excuse any duplication you may encounter.

I would like to announce the completion of v. 2.0 of the ASCII text
version of "Film and Video Resources on the Internet." In addition to
updating the guide, we have been able to create a new gopher and HTML
document which are based on the guide. All three are now available on the
Internet. (Please note that it may take us a few weeks to update the
information contained in the gopher and HTML document to reflect the v.
2.0 update.)

Contained in this message you will find:

  * access information for all three versions of the guide
  * information about the most recent revisions

Thanks for your interest, and as always, Kristen and I are eagerly
awaiting your feedback about the guide. We love to hear about new
resources to include, and we want to make sure our information is as
accurate as possible. Our new e-mail address for your input and requests
is [log in to unmask] All e-mail correspondence should be directed to
this address.

Thanks and enjoy!

GUIDE UPDATE INFORMATION
~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

* "Film and Video Resources on the Internet" v. 2.0 now contains access
and descriptive information for eighty-one resources. Approximately 26 of
these resources have been added since the last update in February, and
one resource was removed due to its demise (FILM-L).

* As we were working on the update, we found that some of the new
resources did not fit into our existing organizational structure for the
guide, so we decided to re-organize to fit the ever-changing character of
the Internet. The new Table of Contents is shown below, with a + to
indicate a new category of resource.

* Institutional affiliations have been added when we deemed it helpful in
indicating the source of the resource.

* The section entitled "Databases" has been removed. All resources which
were included in that category have been moved to other sections which
better indicate their contents. For instance, CARDIFF'S MOVIE DATABASE
BROWSER was moved from "Databases" to "Filmographies/Bibliographies," a
category which is much more indicative of the contents of the resource.

* Our philosophy is that each resource included in the guide should be
available free of charge. However, included in version 2.0 of the guide
is a new section entitled "commercial resources." These are resources
which do involve cost in the form of video and laser disc retail. However,
we decided to include them because browsing each resource is free, these
resources reflect the evolving facet of business on the Internet, and they
could be potentially useful resources to consumers and selectors. We
should point out that we have not purchased anything from these retailers
and thus cannot offer any comments regarding the quality of service or
   product.
