Streisand's _A Star is Born_ comes to mind."
 
Streisand produced the remake, which was nominally directed by Frank Pierson.
 
But that raises the interesting question, does "make" mean "direct" or "control
the production of"?  If the latter, we have to start looking at everything
Sherri Lansing, among many others, oversaw.
 
Similarly Bette Midler was behind the remake of STELLA DALLAS as STELLA.
