I've been on digest, overwhelmed with work, so I missed the original
query on water in movies.  I'd like to suggest, however, movies with
water imagery that I haven't seen posted (apologies for any duplicates)
 
The Natural (there's a lot about water in this ... though little is ever
             seen)
 
Apocalypse Now  (the whole trip takes place on a very thematically
                 significant river)
(see also, on that note, The African Queen)
 
I'd be grateful if the author of the original post (or some kind-hearted
colleague) would give me greater detail on the search.  Water imagery is
one of my recent research focuses ...
