issue swirls around narcissism of major players and passion for remaking, in
this case of the old bob hope bing crosby road movies on the narcissistic
isssue, lots of script tampering with what might have been originally a
promising film by whatever giant ego or egos took repeated shots at it during
what one screenwriter has called preproduction hell you might want to read
two essays in my SCREEN MEMORIES: HOLLYWOOD CINEMA ON THE PSYCHOANALYTIC
COUCH "On The McMovie: Less is Less at the Simplex", and "ALWAYS: Raiders
of the Lost Text" . Lack of time prevent more coherent reply but you may find
the above essays helpful re narcissism remakes
screen industry politics so forth

too many cooks spoiled a potentially interesting film is my best guess
