The British Film Institute is currently planning an interdisciplinary
conference on melodrama ("stage, picture, screen") to be held one year
from now, 6-10 July 1992.
 
Some of the suggested areas and issues to be discussed:
 
1.  Melodrama and Cultural Exchange
2.  Stage to Screen
3.  Constructing and Reconstructing the Popular
4.  The Uses and Abuses of Melodrama
5.  Theories, Methodologies and Education
 
The closing date for the submission of abstracts detailing a proposed
paper is 1 October 1991.
