I'm doing research for my Master's thesis on Woody Allen. I read in
Graham McCann's "Woody Allen: New Yorker" the following quote:

". . . he has confessed elsewhere that his early movies relied to some
extent on depiction of women as objects of lust, because 'that's the
easiest way to get laughs.'"

Would anyone happen to know what source McCann got "'that's the easies way
to get laughs'" from because he does not cite it in his text? I
appreciate any help that I can get.
