Along the thoughts of film borrowing from music methods it reminded me that
how as a composer and musician I borrow from drama and acting
methods.
 
I recall attending a concert followed by a lecture years ago where the
musicians took an approach about playing the instruments as an actor.
It made me realize that this is what I was doing all along without being
aware of it on the surface.  As a matter of fact, I would have been afraid
to mention this to other musicians at the time since most of them were overly
concerned about the technical part of playing the instrument like
playing faster.  During the lecture several musicians were asked to compose
a melody on-the-spot (improv) based on the directions of love, fear and rage.
These directions in my mind were more to the point than saying to simply
play a ballad or play louder.
