CFP: Queer Sites
Society for Cinema and Media Studies Conference
March 10-13, 2011, New Orleans

This panel explores the intersection of queerness, media and place. It seeks to address both the media representation of queerness in specific places and the queer dynamics of places in which media are consumed. How does queerness serve as an optic through which the history of a particular place is written in film, television, and new media? How have travel media addressed the development of gay tourism? How have media representations framed the queerness of particular urban neighborhoods (such as the Castro, Kreuzberg, Shinjuku and Darlinghurst) or certain types of place (such as movie theaters, bars, streets, parks, gyms and apartments)? How have those very places served as sites for queer media consumption?

Please send 300 word abstract, short bibliography and short bio to Roger Hallas (English Department, Syracuse University) via email: [log in to unmask] by August 14, 2010.
