RE. Renting Man Bites Dog:  I mentioned this a while ago, but it seems
pertinent again.
I found a video of the film at a reputable, privately-owned, cool, artsy,
etc. video store, but it was an EDITED VERSION that cut out the most
important, pivotal (in terms of the film's self-reflexivity about its
representation of violence) two scenes of the film.  Be careful to get
the full version when you go to rent.  I wonder if there IS a ful video-
version available in stores.
