You should take (another?) look at both Greenaway's The Cook, The Thief,
etc., etc., and at Frears' My Beautiful Laundrette.  I've noticed that these
color dynamics become structuring visual principles in both films, and each
is apparently right up the alley of your interests with this inquiry.
