Tony Williams wants to know
"IS THE FILM [NKB] MORE THAN A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FOUND FOOTAGE EPIC?"
 
Well if it were that would be a great achievment. What other such epic can we
name? Much of the art of NKB comes from the ways in which capital flowed
around the film. Getting Hollywood to make  a found footage film in which,
unlike JFK, the found footage is not of an evidentiary character is quite an
achievment. One might also think of the use of Coca-Cola product placement in
such an offensive context that no one can really believe that it was product
placeemnt. I've read more than a few suppositions on the netabout how Coke
was tricked into allowing the use of the spots etc.  The fact that they
appear in a way that makes their status as product placement  uncertain is
genius. It is a bit like Hans Hake's piece for a show sponsered by Pierre
Cardin. Hake made a chart illustrating the conections between Cardin and
South African gold mines (this was in the early 80s). Here Stone shows the
connection between selling product (including his own) and thrilling
violence. What more do you want from Hollywood?
