AUSTIN FILM FESTVIAL'S FOURTH ANNUAL
 
****   Austin Film Festival's Film Competition ****
 
1.Competitive Submissions Feature Length Requirements:
  (1) Films must be feature length narrative (75minutes or longer; no
        documentaries).
  (2) Applicant must be one of the credited writers.
  (3) Films produced, finaced or initiated by a major film studio are
        ineligible.
  (4) Films may have a distributor but may not be in theatrical
       release in the U.S.
  (5) Films must be available in 16mm or 35mm "composite" condition
        with soundrrack, titles included.
  (6) Films originally shot on video must be availabel on 16mm or 35
        mm for festival screening.
  (7) Films must have been completed no earlier than June 1, 1996.
  (8) Entried must be postmarked by August 12, 1997.
  (9) Films must be available for screening during the Festival
       October 2-5.
2. Short film requirements
   Short Film:
   (1) open to anyone who wished to enter.
   (2) films must be available in 16mm or 32mm "composite"condition
         with soundtrack, titles included.
   (3) films must have been completed no earlier than June 1, 1996.
   (4) films must be availabel for screening during the Festival
         October 2-5
   Student Short film:
   (1) open to only students; must include proof of student ID
   (2) films must be short narrative (30 min or less; no
        documentaries).
   (3) applicant must be one of the credited writers.
   (4) films must be available in 16mm or 35mm "composite" condition
        with soundtrack, titles included.
   (5) films must have been completed no earlier than June 1, 1996.
   (6) entries must be postmarked by August 12, 1997.
   (7) films must be available for screening during the Festival
         October 2-5.
3. Awards
  (1) the awards will be presented Friday, Oct. 3 during the Austin
       Film Festival's Awards Luncheon.
  (2) 1st Place Cash Awards: Feature Length, $750: SHort film, $500;
        Student Short, $500
  (3) 1st Place in each category receives one round trip air fare to
        the 1997 Austin Film Festival (not to exceed $500), hotel
        accommodations at a Festval hotel, and the AFF bronze award.
  (4) all finalists receive a complimentary VIP pass to the 1997
        Austin Film Festival held in conjunction with the Heart of Film
        Screenwriters Conference.
  (5) All finalists' films will be screened during the festival.

**** Austin Film Festival's Heart of Film Screen play Competition ****
Call for Entries;
 
1. AWARDS
    Adult/Mature and Children/Family Categories.
    First Place -
       * $3,500
       * participation in the AFF Mentor Program
       * Round trip air fare (not to exceed $500),
          hotel accomodations at a Festival hotel, and complimentary pass for
          the 1997 Austin Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference.
       *AFF Bronze award
   All other finalists receive a complimentary pass to the Austin Heart of Film
 Screenwriters Conference.
 
Note 1 : All sscreenplay semi-finalists will be eligible to attend the
screenwriters conference for $100. Attending semi-finalists will have
the option to attend an exclusive master class hosted by a
participating panelist. Previous hosts have included Jim Har, Kurt
Luedtke, Mardik Martin, Janet Roach, Bill Wittliff, and producer
Polly platt and Karen Murphy.
Note 2 : The AFF competition judges reserve the right to increase or
decrease the number of screenplays selected based on the merit ofthe
entires.
Note 3 : The AFF complies a Semi-Finalist Catalog which is given to
all Competition judges and other interested industry parties. All
Semi-finalists are included unless permission is withheld.
 
The winners of the 1997 Austin Heart of Film Screenplay Competition
will be announced at the Austin Heart of Film Screenwrityers
Conference Awards Luncheon on Friday, October 3.
 
 Should the winning screenplay be optioned, the mentorship passes
automatically  to the 2nd place winner.
 
3. Categories:
 (1) Adult/Mature (open to anyone)
       Scripts must be narrative feature-length (90-130pp) screenplays.
 (2) Children/Family (open to anyone)
       scripts must be narrative feature-length (90-130pp) screenplays
       suitable for families & children under 13 years of age.
 
4. Required:
 (1) a completed and signed application.
 (2) script

                                        OCTOBER 2-5, 1997
 
1.Registration Includes
   Attendance to the conference, Exhibition Hall, premieres,
screenings, Q&As, and Welcome Reception & Closing Night Party (Awards
Luncheon is an additional fee).
 
2.Fees.
The 1996 conference was SOLD OUT. Though more meeting space has been
added, attendance will be limited. REGISTER EARLY TO RESERVE YOUR
PLACE.
