It is easy to transfer from VHS to BETA (assuming both machines were NTSC, the
system used in the United States, which would likely be the case if they were
purchased in the United States).  Your friend should just feed the output of
the BETA machine (the cable that normally goes to the monitor) into the VHS
machine.
