  Good luck. The Last Movie was released on video in the late 80s by a company called United Home Video but it's long out of print. Miramax was flirting with re-issuing it at around the same time, but they never bought the rights. You're better off buying a bootleg from "8 minutes to Live" (I may have the wrong number) or some similar source. 
 As for "The American Dreamer", I'd try to contact the producer Lawrence Schiller for details. He has an office in LA and probably in New York as well. 
 I know that both films have turned up in Hopper retrospectives so it's not impossible to find them..
