just an adendum to David Levin's helpful quotes from uncle Theo. In the
essay entitled "Commitment" Adorno writes "The aesthete ic principal of
stylization... make[s] an unthinkable fate appear to have some meaning.
this alone does an injustice to the victims...[some works] ...are even
willingly absorbed as contributions to clearing up the past." Page 313 of
The Essential Frankfurt School Reader. This is the worst part of
Shindlers list, that it seeks to clear up a past that cannot be cleared up
while preserving its truth. The truth of the holocaust is not a collection
of facts.
