I have the distinct feeling I should know the answer to this question, so at
the risk of humiliating myself electronically, virtually, and all other ways,
what exactly *is* The National Film Registry, and what is the significance
of film being selected for it? Does this mean they are selected for
preservation, and for preservation where and by whom?

Many thanks.
