I, too, didn't notice any stands or mikes.  It may have been that the
theater where the original poster saw the film may have had it
framed incorrectly.
 
And I wouldn't be surprised because CROOKLYN is something of a
projectionist's nightmare:  one location was shot with an anamorphic
lens, but the manager at the theater at which I saw it was given
no forewarning of it or explanation of it.  Caused quite a bit
of confusion.
