I'm a bit amazed that no one has mentioned *Le Sang des betes (Blood of
the Beasts)* (1949) as a possiblity for the "meat documentary", perhaps in
some crudely dubbed version, rather than the subtitled version that most
of us have seen in our documentary film or film history classes.  It is
generally considered one of the greatest documentaries of the post-WW II
period (directed by George Franju who is also celebrated for the poetic
horror film *Les Yeux sans visage [Eyes without a Face]*) and certainly
has driven more people to vegetarianism than any other single film, with
the possible exception of Fassbinder's *In a Year of 13 Moons*.
