The Society for Cinema Studies conference will be held April 15-18, 1999 in
West Palm Beach, Florida. The line-up of papers and other presentations is
currently being finalized. This year's special focus is "Media Industries:
Past, Present and Future."

A conference preview has just been installed on the SCS Website:

http://www.cinemastudies.org/Conf.htm

Included in the preview is information on West Palm Beach, the conference
hotel (Sheraton West Palm Beach), and numerous south Florida attractions on
the order of Flipper's Grave, the Gatorland Jumparoo Show, and Spongearama.

In specific, you'll find links to:

* Atlantic Coastal Cruises, Palm Beach
* Beaches & Parks, Palm Beach Counties
* Butterfly World, Coconut Creek
* Citrus Groves: Blood's Hammock Groves (Delray Beach), Callery-Judge Grove
(Loxahatchee), Knollwood Groves (Boynton Beach)
* Everglades Day Safari, Sanibel, Fort Myers, Naples, and Ft. Lauderdale
* Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, West Palm Beach
* Herbert Hoover Dike System, Lake Okeechobee (hiking/biking trails)
* Hoffman's Chocolates Factory, Greenacres.
* International Museum of Cartoon Art, Boca Raton
* Kravis Performing Arts Center, West Palm Beach
* Lion Country Safari, West Palm Beach
* Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Delray Beach
* Moroso Motorsports Park, Palm Beach Gardens
* Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
* Palm Beach Photographic Museum and Workshops, Delray Beach
* Sawgrass Recreation Park, Ft. Lauderdale (50 miles)
* Seaworld, Orlando (150 miles)
* South Florida Science Museum and Aldrin Planetarium, West Palm Beach
* Universal Studios Florida, Orlando (150 miles)

One word of advice: public transportation is minimal in south Florida. If
you plan to travel much, you'll probably need to rent a car.

Online discussion forums are available for conference-related discussions,
to distribute portions of papers, and/or to search for roommates for the
conference. Check the Website for more details.
