Check out the recent "The Long Kiss Goodnight" for an even more
troubling use (misuse? abuse?) of black masculinity for the purpose of
pumping up the hyper-masculinity of its heroine. Samuel L. Jackson's
character is continually abased, horrifyingly so in the farmyard
sequence, so that he can be subordinated to and rescued by the
former-assassin-now-school-teacher played by Geena Davis. It's too
bad that this has to be a component, because otherwise this is the
best Hong Kong movie yet made in the U.S.
