Call for papers: Memory, women's lives and the new media
Screening the past wishes to run a special issue in 2001 dealing with
questions which arise from the use by women of video and the new media to
produce autobiographical works.
Papers presented at a number of recent conferences suggest there is a range
of interesting work being done which examines various ways women are using
film, video and new media to produce works which, while broadly
autobiographical,
-- lie at the intersection of documentary and performance; and/or
-- seek to blur boundaries between fiction and non fiction; found and
constructed images, sounds and texts; and/or
-- explore memory and fantasy,
in the construction of representations of the self.
Proposals (approx.500 words) are invited which deal with these and other
issues which arise from the broad topic of women's autobiographical work in
film, video and new media. Papers are particularly sought which deal with
ways in which such works by women seek to shape the evolution of new
cultural technologies.
Proposals should reach the editors by 1 June 2000, and should be sent to the

will be required by 1 March 2001. Papers submitted will be peer reviewed --
