Gunvor Nelson and the Avant-Garde

Karlstad, Sweden 29-31 August, 2002.

In cooperation with the Regional Film Center, Film i Värmland, Karlstad
University is hosting the first international conference dedicated to the
films of Gunvor Nelson, one of the central figures in the avant-garde film
movement that emerged in the Bay Area in the 60 ’s.
The event includes a retrospective of Gunvor Nelson ’s films and a series of
talks aimed at examining both her films and her own historical and con-
temporary contexts. Among the speakers are well-known filmmakers, cura-
tors and academics: Steve Anker, Paul Arthur, Pip Chodorov, Malcolm Le
Grice, Henrik Orrje, Astrid Söderbergh-Widding.
