Dear Colleagues,

May I take the liberty of telling you about a new book of mine that reflects
the interests you and I share?

Its title is: Meeting Movies. The book combines interpretations of eight
classic films with free associations and memories that make it possible for
me--and for you, if you read it--to understand why I interpret these movies
the way I do. But more to the point, I believe, if you open yourself to my
individual responses, you can add them to your own and enrich your
experience of these films.

The eight classics are: Casablanca, Vertigo, The Seventh Seal, Freud,
Persona, Children of Paradise, Shakespeare in Love and 8 1/2. Meeting
Movies lets us see how all of us perceive and grasp what's on the screen
through the filters of personality and personal history.

I'm a professor of literature and film. I feel compelled to interpret.
Yet, beneath and beyond my intellectualizing, I know that a variety of
half-conscious personal considerations and recurring themes color my
feelings and hence my interpretations. And this, I believe, is true for all
of us. The motto of this book could be the first command of the Oracle at
Delphi—Know Thyself.

I've attached an order blank from the publisher that you can download. Or
you can order from Amazon at this URL: <http://tinyurl.com/hvfus>

And here's a URL with a more detailed description of the book, namely, its
jacket copy: <http://tinyurl.com/px99e>

                      --Best

P.S. I'd be grateful if you would post this to any other lists in
psychoanalysis, psychology, or film where you think it would be
appropriate. And I'd be doubly grateful if you could let me know off-list
where you sent it so that I can avoid double postings. n.
