Regarding the recent query about movies set in Paris that
treat the subject of sexual obsession (Last Tango, Monsieur
Hire etc), one obvious -- or not so obvious? -- example comes
to mind. Unarguably the most popular story of sexual obsession
in Paris ever filmed. Can you guess?

Based on a popular novel, it's been remade at least five
times, the first (silent) version dating from 1925; there have
been at least a couple of offbeat movie versions that tranpose
the story to other settings; it is also a highly successful
stage musical.
