This is in response to your quiry about instructive literature on film
preservation relayed by K. Balding through Screen-L.
the newest edition of the only book designed for developing archives has
just been published by the International Federation of Film Archives and
is available in the USA from: Garland Publishing, Inc., New York City.
Title: A HANDBOOK FOR FILM ARCHIVES (1991), edited by Eileen Bowser and
John Kuiper. I understand it sells for ca. $30. Another useful volume
should still be available from Eastman Kodak: THE BOOK OF FILM CARE, Kodak
number H-23. Try writing EkCo., Mp&TV Products Div., 343 State Street,
Rochester, N.Y., 14650-0315 (publication Date was 1983 and L.C. cat.card
no. is 82-084502.
The University of North Texas offers courses that relate to film and video
archive work and Ohio State University has offered workshops in concert
with the Library of Congress because LC has a lab and storage in Dayton.
As far as I know there are no scholarships or fellowships regularly
available in the US but your interested Argentinian might write me
to see what could be worked out: Dr. John Kuiper, Chair,Dept. Radio, Tv,
and Film, University of North Texas, P.O. Box 13108, Denton, TX
76203-3108.
