Would you accept DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN as a text in the posited continuum
of punk?  I'm recalling especially the scene in the clothes shop w/ punk/pop
clothes serving to make all kinds of connections -- self-consciousness and
heavy-handed irony everywhere.
 
But if we're talking punk & music, can't we go further back to Brando and
the jukebox...?
