Talking of political sit-coms. Has THE NEW STATESMAN ever been shown
in the US or anywhere other than GB? It is not very ingenious
comedy-wise. Starring Rik Mayall as the conservative MP Alan
B'Stard, however, its politics are admirably unbalanced - a major
difference to the well-meaning satire of PRIME MINISTER which
apparently went down very well with Mrs Thatcher. It is also unusual
as it was shown on ITV (produced by Thames TV, I think).
