Two tenure-track Assistant Professor Positions in the Department of
Communication Studies at Northeastern University.

Northeastern University, located in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts,
invites applications for two tenure-track full-time assistant professor
positions in the Department of Communication Studies, beginning Fall 2004.

The Department of Communication Studies at Northeastern is an innovative,
teaching and research department comprised of three concentrations: Media
Studies, Organizational Communication and Public Communication. Its mission
is to develop both its research and teaching in a way that advances
critical thinking into practice and application. The two positions are
designed to strengthen our media studies concentration which has been
developing a cultural studies approach to media analysis and production.

Position One: Media Studies with production experience. We are seeking
applicants with a doctorate (or the completion of the doctorate prior to
commencing the position) with research areas and teaching expertise that
demonstrate a capacity to teach video and/or audio production courses as
well as critical analyses of media. Secondary areas of teaching and
research strengths may include new media studies, research methods and
advertising. Some industry experience would be preferred.

Position Two: Media Studies with an expertise in media and cultural
theory/Media History and/or media and cultural policy, political economy.
We are seeking applicants with a doctorate (or completion of the doctorate
prior to commencing the position) with research and teaching expertise that
intersects with media and cultural theory. A capacity to develop courses in
media and technological history and/or media and cultural policy, and
political economy would be advantageous and preferred. Other areas of
strength may include community media, new media, television/radio studies,
research methods or advertising.

Successful applicants will also have a demonstrated commitment to achieving
and maintaining diversity in higher education. Northeastern University
particularly welcomes applications from women, minorities, and persons with
