Colorization - a naive question.

Sharing the dismay with other film scholars over colorization, I
nevertheless found the arguments about the service Turner is actually
doing the film community in terms of preservation interesting.
I have a very naive question in this connection:
If you turn your color saturation knob all the way down while
watching a colorized b/w movie, will you then, in effect, be
looking more or less at the "original"?
