This is the comic book as much as TV or film but the city of Metropolis,
IL (?) has long played up its association as home of the Man of Steel
(while the "real" Metropolis stands in for NYC and the tv show was filmed
in LA).
 
Truth or Consequences, New Mexico changed its name to that of the game show
just for the tourist plug.
