A title we've had success using in classes for critical thinking
(Primarily for 4th year architecture students) is Universal's 1969 film--
Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and find True Happiness?
What we liked particularly about the film is that it is structurally
complex with different levels of meaning relating to man's search for
meaning under a really trivial surface. It made the students really
have to work at getting past the obvious and into the structure. We had
to stop using it when we found that students were passing on their
analyses to the next years class. It works best as a surprise, drives
them nuts and really shows who understood the course and who just
attended the lectures.
