CFP: Hollywood on the Home Front
Call For Papers
WAR IN FILM, TELEVISION, AND HISTORY
November 11-14, 2004

Deadline for proposals is July 30, 2004.
This call for papers focuses on the contributions made by Hollywood studios,
actors, and film exhibitors during wartime, emphasizing the importance of
movies and moviemakers on the home front.
War efforts by studios and movie theaters in countries other than the United
States are also welcome.
Topics might include but are not limited to:
Studio assistance in the war effort, such as the use of Disney animators
War Bond sales efforts by both film stars and theaters large and small
The role of newsreels to provide images of war in local theaters
Feature, documentary, and government sponsored films portraying or easing
home front anxieties and sacrifices during wartime
Films for discussion might include but are not limited to:
Since You Went Away
Tender Comrade
Stage Door Canteen
Joe Smith, American
Saboteur
The Miracle at Morgan's Creek

"War in Film, Television, and History," is an interdisciplinary conference
meeting in the Dallas Area, 11-14 November 2004. This Film and History League
gathering will be joined by the Literature/Film Association.
The featured luncheon speaker is Adrian Cronauer whose "life" was
appropriated by Barry Levinson for _Good Morning Vietnam_ (1987), starring Robin
Williams. Cronauer will discuss how his treatment and script evolved into the final
projection.
Other Special Guest Speakers include:
Lawrence Suid, author of _Guts and Glory: The Making of the American Image on
Film_
Frank Thompson, expert on the Alamo and content expert for _The Alamo_ (2004)
Jeanine Basinger, author of _The World War II Combat Film_
