I strongly suggest that all the participants in the discussion regarding the
word "queer" read a brand new book by the noted historian George Chauncey. It
is called "Gay New York" and is published by Basic Books. You will find
therein a complete history of the terminology with which "gay" and "straight"
society has used all the terms referring to the subject. Additionally, the
book is the most authoritative and well-researched study of the history of
"gay" men since Katz' "Gay American History". Highly recommended.
