The Godard quote is entirely typical, but I wonder if it could come from
a fairly recent film, possibly IN PRAISE OF LOVE, which I have not yet
seen but that I do know gives several knocks to Hollywood.

It might also be in 2 X 50 YEARS OF FRENCH CINEMA, made for the 1995
"centennial" of film's "birth," in which Godard appears himself,
questioning the very notion of why anyone is celebrating the
*commercial* birth of cinema:  "Why not just take the money and
celebrate that?" he asks.

It is most likely in reaction to the cost and success of TITANIC, but I
don't have anything more definite than that.
