Chad -- Such self-citations always seem immodest, but you might want to look
at my book, WHAT MADE PISTACHIO NUTS?: EARLY SOUND COMEDY AND THE VAUDEVILLE
AESTHETIC, which includes some discussion of audience resistance to talkies and
the influx of Broadway entertainers in the early sound period as well as a lot
of cites, primary and secondary on this period.
