I'd particularly recommend Cook's A History of Narrative Film. When I've
assigned it in the past, I told students that in addition to buying a
textbook they were investing in the best video guide ever.

Any film history textbook (or even a quick Google search) should give
her more lists than she wants! Is she looking at national ("new wave")
or international ("art") movements? political? alternative (e.g.,
feminist, LGBT, etc.)? other? or does she know?
