Telecommunication and Film Department

University of Alabama

The Department seeks a full time, tenure-track assistant professor 
beginning August 16, 2006 to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in 
two or more of the following areas: electronic media industry economics, 
marketing, promotion and programming strategies; digital entertainment; 
global media issues; digital network issues and impacts. Candidates 
should have an earned doctorate or be in the final stages of 
dissertation completion and demonstrate potential for undergraduate and 
graduate teaching and for developing a program of scholarship suitable 
for later tenure consideration. Salary is nationally competitive.

Established in 1940, the Department has 400 students in undergraduate 
and masters programs. It is one of five academic units in the College of 
Communication and Information Sciences, which includes the Institute for 
Communication and Information Research and a College-wide mass 
communication doctoral program ranked in the top 10 nationally by 
Journalism and Mass Communication Educator and the National 
Communication Association. The College operates the professional 
production facilities of the state’s award-winning Center for Public 
Television and Radio, Alabama Public Radio, student radio station 
WVUA-FM and Tuscaloosa’s primary commercial television station, WVUA-7.

The University of Alabama, established in 1831, is currently rated one 
of the top-50 public universities in the nation by US News & World 
Report. With 21,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students in 56 
doctoral programs, it has a Carnegie classification of

Tuscaloosa, in the nation’s 40th television market, is a 
university-oriented community of approximately 100,000 located less than 
an hour’s drive from Birmingham. It is about four hours’ drive or less 
to New Orleans, Nashville and Atlanta, as well as the Smoky Mountains
