a student of mine is trying to do research on the role of diegetic
audiences in films, the use of an on screen audience which in some way
stands in for the viewer in the theater watching the film, and cues
certain kinds of responses

i know that there has been serious critical work done on this topic, but
i've not been able to track anything down . . . i'd be very grateful for
any leads to books or articles that take a serious look at this issue,
even if only in passing

many thanks

mike
