This may be a little off-center/centre for Screen-L but here goes!
An Australian newspaper report in 1991 indicates that an Australian won
an Academy Award in the mid 1960s - and that his/her name is unknown.
Local research has not been able to verify the report (perhaps because it
is untrue!). However I suspect that there may be some encyclopedic minds
on Screen-L who may know every Oscar winner and their backgrounds.
The report reads: "It was in the mid-60's that yet another Academy Award
headed down under. A Sound Recordist, once employed in Sydney by ABC
Radio [ABC= Australian Broadcasting Commission], won an Oscar for Sound
Recording associated with an American made feature film. However he has
steadfastly refused to reveal any information about his Academy Award
success and his achievement is known only to his family and close friends".

Thanking you in advance
