A good place to start would be the website for the DEFA Film Library,
based at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.  DEFA (Deutsche Film
Aktiengesellschaft) was the state-run film industry in the former GDR, and
copies of many of its films are now housed here at UMass.  The URL is:

This site contains descriptions of the films maintained by the library, a
bibliography, and links to other sites related to DEFA and the former GDR.
