I remember an interview with the director, Danny Boyle, shortly after the release of "Trainspotting" in which he commented on the issue of redubbing the film for the US market. He said that the makers were against the idea, but that they had eventually reached a compromise -- ease up on the dialect during the first twenty minutes or so, on the grounds that anyone intelligent enough to sit through that much of the film would be able to cope with the remainder in its unadulterated form.
