I remember an interview with the director, Danny Boyle, shortly after the
release of "Trainspotting" in which he commented on the issue of redubbing
the film for the US market.

He said that the makers were against the idea, but that they had eventually
reached a compromise -- ease up on the dialect during the first twenty
minutes or so, on the grounds that anyone intelligent enough to sit through
that much of the film would be able to cope with the remainder in its
unadulterated form.
