I wasn't simply dismissing Jerry McGuire because it was a "studio" film.
In fact, I think it is the WEAKEST thing Crowe has done. My judgement of
the film, then was slightly auteurist (I know, a bad word now-a-days).
But, come to think of it, Secrets and Lies isn't Mike Leigh's best work
either (I think Naked is more powerful, and Life is Sweet a more
interesting kitchen-sink film). I guess if there HAS to be a studio film
in the running, Jerry McGuire isn't the WORST pick.
