State University of New York at Stony Brook Stony Brook, NY 11794 Krin Gabbard Chair Comparative Studies 516 632-7460 20-Aug-1996 04:44pm EDT FROM: KGABBARD TO: Remote Addressee ( [log in to unmask] ) Subject: Reciting Stendhal Dear Colleagues, A member of my department is writing on Stendhal's _The Red and the Black_. He has a memory of a movie, about American politics he thinks, in which an old Southern Senator has memorized the book in French. When the Senator goes crazy at the end, he is hauled away reciting passages from the book. Needless to say, my colleague can't remember anything else about the movie. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Thanks for your help. Krin ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message. Problems? Contact [log in to unmask]
