The V-Chip was developed by a man in Canada (where it has been used in test communities with great success). It uses the same technology as closed captioning for television. Programs are rated for different qualities (sex, violence, etc) on a scale like our movies are. Then people can set their TVs to only accept certain types of programming. For example, a kids program with no sex or violence would be rated A-1-1. (A being like a 'G' movie rating and the ones as being the lowest amount for sex and violence). A parent could set the TV to not show anything with a higher rating than A-1-1 and let their kids watch TV unattended without worry. Later they can readjust the rating so they can watch their favorite sitcoms, movies, etc which would have higher ratings. It's not censorship; it's just a tool. ---- To signoff SCREEN-L, e-mail [log in to unmask] and put SIGNOFF SCREEN-L in the message. Problems? Contact [log in to unmask]
