The Writer's Film project(WFP) offers university-trained fiction, theater, and film writers the opportunity to begin a career in screenwriting. Over the years, the WFP has provided more than $800,000 in screenwriter fellowships. This year, up to five writers will be chosen to participate and each will receive a $20,000 stipend to cover his or her living expenses. During this twelev month program, each writer creates two original, feature-length screenplays. The WFP workshop meets three to five times per week for on-going group consideration of individual works-in-progress. Throughout the year, workshop members are advised by professional film writers, producers and directors. Upon graduation from the program, WFP writers have been signed by major literacy agencies and have been hired for writing assignments and/or had screenplays acquired by studios and production companies.
