What should be used as the most authoritative source for titles? For books it's the title page and along that line I would generally say the opening credit for a film should be considered the actual title. Two recent films bring up the problem with this. In Batman Forever the title credit has the Batman logo and the word "forever"; nowhere in the opening or closing credits does the word "batman" appear. And for Seven the title appears on screen as "Se7en". Does anybody else care about this? Gary Giddins in a recent issue of the Village Voice claimed that discographers care more about false starts than their own children but he's not entirely unsympathetic.
