I'm delurking now. My name is Cheryl Gilbert, I'm an advanced grad
student at Temple University and teach film history at University of
the Arts.

A perhaps too obvious example is the way the cloud sequences are shot
in _My Own Private Idaho_. It does a lot to establish how Mike's
emotional landscape intersects with the physical landscape.

Also, just as a historical note, wasn't it Kurasawa who pioneered
slow motion fight sequences as a way of carrying the altered emotional
time of a violent situation?
